Michelle Obama is worth her weight in gold…
I bought a piece of jewelry today. I am rarely inclined to do so and normally if I do make such a purchase it would be earrings. However, today I bought a necklace. While it may not be the most expensive piece of jewelry or an exact replica of the one that caught my eye, it is the most imperative fashion statement I wish to make right now. I don’t wear much jewelry these days, but I will wear this piece daily. I already have a couple of favorite necklaces one being from my daughter with three pearls strung next to one another representing the three generations of women in our family. She is expecting a daughter in September. The other is a beautiful contemporary piece with pearls also from my sister and best friend. Meaningful 2020 birthday presents reminding me of the importance of love and family. Pearls, a long strand of pearls from my husband Jon have been my signature piece for many years so I don’t easily give up my neck real estate for just any piece of jewelry.
The word “vote” was perfectly draped and rested unassumingly on Michelle Obama’s neck last evening as she delivered the most compelling speech of our time. Four independent golden letters dangled on a delicate chain catching the light as she spoke to the nation on the first evening of the Democratic Convention. The light and wisdom of Michelle Obama shone brightly last evening. Four simple letters combined to spell the most powerful word in our country right now. Vote. The ease, the grace and the power of her message was as if she were right in the room with us imploring us to vote in November and the many valid reasons why we must. She spoke to our nation like a friend. A friend of the people. A longtime dear friend to our country. Michelle Obama was captivating. The many moments of genuine concern and worry under the current Trump administration…

He has had more than enough time to prove that he can do the job, but he is clearly in over his head. He cannot meet this moment. He simply cannot be who we need him to be for us. Voting has always been a must for me. My father taught us the importance of our vote for as far back as I can remember. The importance of protecting our democracy rests on each citizen’s shoulder. Protecting our freedom is a disciplined responsibility. My grandfather, an Italian immigrant arrived at Ellis Island so very many years ago only to nearly be sent back home due to an issue with his eyes. He never for a moment took his U.S. citizenship for granted. Voting was a must. A duty of citizenship. A privilege. In his very late and last years his vision was compromised but his spirit not. My father the youngest of five would accompany my grandfather to the voting booth assisting him with exercising his right to vote. He never missed an election. Nothing made him prouder than to be an American. The right to cast his vote, his voice, his responsibility to the country he loved. A lack of physical vision never impeded my grandfather’s vision for America. Vote he did. Always, as will I.
I fell back in” hope” last night. Michelle Obama’s words rang true, alarming in their sincerity but there is something we can do to get out of this abyss. Vote. Clearly, she has a great love for our country and the people of our nation. Heartfelt, educated, experienced and fearful of what is yet to come if we do not vote on November 3, 2020 for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris….
