Tutus and Black Velvet Party Dresses

My husband and I arrived at our daughter and son-in-law’s home just about at lunch time. Greeted by our granddaughter and their Brittany Spaniel. Hard to tell who was happier for the company. Hugs and welcoming barks delighted us. The scent of fragrant candles floated through the air. Their home was filled with the spirit of this holiday. A Christmas tree glowed warmly while boasting sentimental ornaments.

Our granddaughter dressed for the occasion. A tutu. Pink and purple. Orange and shades of blue too. A bold rainbow of colors. Attached by a heart shaped raspberry pink gem. Awkwardly it rested on top of a black velvet party dress. Underneath the stiff netting were glimpses of a skirt that sparkled red and silver. A bow. Two hair bows. Red and green. Bare small toddler feet completed her outfit. Belle’s baby doll held closely. She too was dressed for Christmas.

A storm brewed outside. Festive in. Cookies to be baked. The gifts are wrapped. Christmas music to be played…

“When we remember a special Christmas, it is not the presents that made it special, but the laughter, the feeling of love, and the togetherness of friends and family that made that Christmas special.” –Catherine Pulsifer
